Qantas signs Rio to new travel contract | WA Business News
Qantas Airways says its decade-long association with Rio Tinto has been extended for a further three years after the airline signed a new agreement with the mining giant.
Under the new agreement, which has started, Qantas said it would be the major air services provider for Rio Tinto's Australian and international operations.
Qantas said the recent expansion of its fly-in-fly-out operations through the purchase of resource charter airline Network Aviation would?support a range of Rio Tinto projects in Western Australia.
Qantas group executive commercial Rob Gurney said in a statement on Thursday the Flying Kangaroo had been Rio Tinto's preferred airline for more than 10 years.
Rio Tinto head of procurement Scott Singer said the long-term agreement would enable the miner to grow.
The battle for corporate travel contracts has heated up recently, with Virgin Australia moving to capture a larger share of business travellers
