As roofing contractors in servicing Tacoma, Puyallup and surrounding areas, we feel it?s a serious responsibility to educate our customers and communities concerning the dangers of attic mold.
Attic mold is a subtle source of health issues all across America. Living in the North West where we have a high level of precipitation, attic mold has the perfect conditions to thrive in. If you are a home owner you will want to tune in for these informative articles.

?
In a recent re-roof that took place in the city of Tacoma, our crew off roofing technicians discovered a large quantity of rotten sheathing. This rot is due to roof leak that did not receive proper attention. If its not detected or ignored the water continues over time to damage the roof sheathing, insulation, drywall, paint and spawns dangerous attic molds.

?
As you can see in the photo below we had to tear-off the roofing substrate in order to create a solid roof deck for the new system. This is important for the performance and longevity of the new roofing system. If you are in the Tacoma area and are concerned about what might be lurking in your attic due to a leaky old roof, give us a call, and we inspect it for you. That is why they call us the home improvement hero?s.

Self-Compassion Increases Self-Improvement Motivation | Your ...

Can treating oneself with compassion after making a mistake increase self-improvement motivation? In four experiments, the authors examined the hypothesis that self-compassion motivates people to improve personal weaknesses, moral transgressions, and test performance. Participants in a self-compassion condition, compared to a self-esteem control condition and either no intervention or a positive distraction control condition, expressed greater incremental beliefs about a personal weakness (Experiment 1); reported greater motivation to make amends and avoid repeating a recent moral transgression (Experiment 2); spent more time studying for a difficult test following an initial failure (Experiment 3); exhibited a preference for upward social comparison after reflecting on a personal weakness (Experiment 4); and reported greater motivation to change the weakness (Experiment 4). These findings suggest that, somewhat paradoxically, taking an accepting approach to personal failure may make people more motivated to improve themselves.

You Should Hire Other Entrepreneurs | TalentRefresh | Small ...

Candidates with dreams of starting their own business can actually make great hires for yours, argues one expert on entrepreneurship-obsessed Gen Y.

When Millennial Branding and analytics company Identified.com combed through millions of Facebook profiles recently to glean insights about how the social network is being used professionally, they discovered something surprising?among young people (so-called Gen Y) the fifth most popular job title was ?owner.?

At the time, Millennial Branding?s managing partner Dan Schawbel told Inc.com that he believes the entrepreneurial life appeals to younger workers because, ?they can have an impact on Day 1, whereas in a large company, they would have to go through months of training only to be stuck in a single role.? They also ?saw their parents work for large companies for decades and don?t want to same fate. They don?t trust large companies,? he noted.

All of which is well and good if you?re a young person bent on starting a business and want to know you?re not alone. But if you?re a bit older and the owner of a more established business, what good could this information possibly do you? After all, you?re pressing concern is how to hire and get the best out of new talent and it doesn?t help you any if the primary interest of so many of potential hires is striking out on their own, does it?

Not so fast, Schawbel answers in a recent column for the American Express OPEN Forum blog. Young folks with entrepreneurial dreams can actually make great hires for your business. What benefits does hiring your fellow entrepreneur offer?

?These ?kindred spirits? would make the best employees for your small business. Who better understands that a lack of resources and manpower forces you to work harder in the initial stages than a young entrepreneur?? writes Schawbel. ?Not only will these fresh-faced workers offer a breath of fresh air into your staff, they will bring a different perspective as well. Eventually you?re going to have to sell your service or product to members of Gen Y, and who would better understand the needs of Millennials better than Gen Y themselves?? he continues.

But getting the most out of team members with their own entrepreneurial dreams requires you handle these hires in a particular way, according to Schawbel. Forget railroading them into narrow, controlled roles that don?t put their dynamism to fill use. Instead, Schawbel suggests allowing their entrepreneurialism space to benefit your business:

It?s important to understand that merely hiring young entrepreneurs and then forcing them to surrender their ideas is pointless. Many corporations are embracing the idea of empowering their workers to become ?intrepreneurs??acting like a small business under the umbrella of a bigger business. Richard Branson recently endorsed the style of workplace ethic. You don?t have to sacrifice your visions of your company, but it?s vital to keep an open mind to the ideas your employees bring to the table.

Would you hire a young person with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur?

The Low-Down on Polyamorous Relationships | Madame Noire ...

Our usual work banter grew silent. There was the pivotal moment of awkward silence, where every woman either had to choose her bohemian or standardized self. Your take on sex in the workplace was everything; anything you said might slight you forever.

I spoke first, neutrally of course, ?He said?that?he?s what??

The topic of the conversation, Diane, mouthed the words ?Polyamorous.?

Some girls in the room wore their ?WTF? faces, others raised an eyebrow in intrigue and I smiled. I?d heard this once before: It was circa 2005, in the warmth of a fireplace and the aura of good women. Someone was eager to learn why another?s baby?s father had been absent. The girl told us all that he practiced polyamory; the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate relationship at a time with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved (via Wikipedia).

She replied with no hint of agitation, ?He?s been with his other woman.?

Most of us at that time were convinced she?d lost her mind. The room was set ablaze with conversation that day, debates pummeling back and forth between vigorous and strong-minded women.

In present day, the room just fell quiet. The girls nodded their heads in understanding and through listening, I discovered that every one of them had been involved with a polyamorous brother?or sister.
1)????? Alicia said she was cool with it, while it was happening. She beamed at the recollection, ?He told me on the third date that he had another girl. He said sometimes it might even be two, but he never went past three. At first I was mad, but then I realized that we were just having fun, right?? The last word of her sentence seemed to tremble, another notion lingering behind her faux confidence.

2)????? Kai said she was blown away by it. She said she?d never had a woman in all her bisexual life be upfront about ?cheating? the way this man was. ??When I confronted him about the texts, he was calm! He told me that he was polyamorous and proud and that if I couldn?t accept his lifestyle, then we couldn?t be together. He said he was going to tell me when the time was right. Tuh!?

3)????? Diane seemed perplexed by it all. We?d been following her excursions with her new boo since inception. The two met in her neighborhood and went on one date. On the second outing, after a few bouts of wine and tango, they settled into good conversation. It was only then he?d bring up a girlfriend who was in the Peace Corps, who also had a girlfriend, and his diehard polyamory.

She asked us what we thought and I was quite confused myself. I had so many questions. Does polyamory lead to polygamy? Or will he just choose ?the one? when it?s time for marriage or when the time is right? If there is a ?the one? in the polyamorous world, why all the experimentation? What happens if one person doesn?t know about it? Is it cheating then? Isn?t polyamory just an open relationship? The expert Googler that I am (my ONE boyfriend calls me that) scoured the net for some answers, and here?s what I came up with.

a)????? Polyamorous relationships vary on boundaries, set rules, agreements, possessiveness and gender equality. They are all individualistic. Hmmmm.

b)????? Apparently, if only one side of the relationship becomes/is polyamorous and there is a child/property involved, it is usually hidden. Such a lifestyle can hinder custody/divorce cases.

c)?????? I got this via Wikipedia: Children treat parents? partners as a form of stepparent or are told to think of them as aunts and uncles. (Hmmmm. I know plenty of people who?ve experienced this in their childhood homes and it wasn?t polyamory. That was something different entirely.)

d)????? The difference between polyamory and polygamy is that polygamy involves multiple marriages with one man and polyamory is just intimacy/romance shared between multiple people, typically those who are unmarried.

e)????? Polyamory is unlike an open relationship, because most open relationships are based on sexual relations. In polyamory, you can have a full-fledged loving relationship with your significant other?one or all of the others.

I don?t think I need to elaborate, if you?d like to investigate further, by all means. However, my concern right now is the frequency of the mention of polyamory within my circle and many others. Is he really polyamorous or is this just a really exquisite way of cheating? Is this phenomenon the new ?I-didn?t-know-we-were-claiming-one-another?? Because if it?s going to be, I need to know all the rules so I can give my girls the appropriate arsenal to call you out, if you?re BS?ing.

If this is what floats your boat, enjoy yourself. Personally, I don?t agree nor will I ever practice this. I?m all about monogamy: This everlasting bond between another soul and my own is filler enough. That and well?my writing.

How do you feel about polyamory?

Anglican Church of Kenya ? Divine Conference 2012 Report Day 2

Charles Raven in Anglican Mainstream
May 25th, 2012

The day began, as yesterday, with half an hour of worship. These times of worship are musically very well done with a good balance of structure and spontaneity. It has been particularly interesting to see the way that no one person monopolises the role of ?worship leader? and this helps to give a sense that the worship is something we all participate in, rather than something that is done to us or for us.

The following greeting was presented from the FCA (UK and Ireland):

To Archbishop Eliud Wabukala and the Bishops, Clergy and faithful of the Anglican Church of Kenya

Your Grace,

We bring you greetings in the precious name of Jesus from the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans in the UK and Ireland as you gather for your 2012 Divine Conference.

We rejoice in our partnership in the gospel with the Anglican Church of Kenya and give thanks to God for Your Grace?s courageous leadership of our Global movement. We hold you all in our prayers asking that God will speak powerfully through his Word and grant you your heart?s desire for the revival and renewal of His work in Church and Nation. May the joyful proclamation of the gospel go forward with fresh urgency and conviction as a result of this time of waiting upon the Lord.

The Rt Revd John Ellison, Chairman FCA UK Panel of Bishops? The Revd Paul Perkin, Chairman, FCA UK Canon Chris Sugden, Executive Secretary, FCA UK

The theme for Archbishop Ben Kwashi?s address, the first of the day, was taken from John 6:68 ?To whom shall we go??? This response to Jesus by Simon Peter on behalf of the twelve when many disciples ?no longer walked with him? (v66) confronts us with the basic challenge of revival. When we find excuses not to fully embrace the truth as it is in Jesus, lies come to rule our lives and if we refuse the offer of life, we are accepting death.? Part of the reason for our lack of urgency is that we have been swayed by the comfortable lie coming from liberal Western theology which downplays or even dissolves the realities of heaven and hell.

The harrowing persecution that is the daily experience of Christians in Jos, and increasingly in Northern Nigeria as a whole, sharpens this choice. ?Every weekend? the Archbishop said ?is a terror weekend? and getting to church is ?a nightmare? of security checks and roadblocks. But persecution in the West is actually more effective because it is so ?subtle and civilised? in the pressures that it brings on Christians to compromise.

The particular force of this teaching is that it comes from someone who, with his wife Gloria and the? many homeless children they have taken in,? has ministered for twenty years in a place of rising violence and danger. The complications of life which can so easily blunt our hunger for God in the West are put in their true perspective and in this man who has learned to hold his life lightly there is an irrepressible delight and trust in God.

The second address of the morning was a further Bible exposition by Bishop Joseph Wasonga based on Ephesians chapters 4 and 5. He impressed on us that true spiritual renewal always leads to right conduct, giving particular attention to the qualities of humility, gentleness and patience (4:2) and the challenge of being ?imitators of God? (5:1), the whole punctuated by short periods of song and sharing of points of application with those seated nearby, the latter being quite a stimulus to paying careful attention.

Every afternoon there are Workshops which last two hours and I chose to join ?Nurturing Tomorrow?s Church? led by the Rev?d Evans Omollo, the Provincial Director of Mission. Although this is a Revival conference,? there is a healthy willingness to attend to hard facts, and the central issue in this session was that although 78% of Kenyans were born between what was described as the early 1980?s and the early 2000?s,? this is the group that the Anglican Church in Kenya is least effective in reaching and which has collectively turned its back on the Christian faith. It came as something as a shock to find that this reflects the fact that the high divorce rates and dysfunctional family life we associate with the West are rapidly becoming normal in Kenya too.

A whole range of creative strategies for engagement were set out, but the most arresting was one of the most simple ? the need to ?Teach gospel truth rather than unleashing emotions? because this is a rootless generation that has lost the sense of anything being objectively true.

The evening Revival Service (at which it was pleasing to note a large number of young people) was led by Kenyan bishop Joseph Kanuku. A passionate preacher and evangelist, he drew on his personal experience of the East African Revival ? and the spiritual debt he owed to former Kenyan Archbishop Manasses Kuria ? to expand upon v6 of Psalm 85 ?Will you not revive us again?.

The burden of his address was very simple and logical ? you can only revive that which has the capacity for life. In other words, revival will mean nothing if you are not born again. He then went on to describe the Spirit filled life. Not only in terms of power and gifting, but also of character and self control with what I guess by the reaction was some fairly direct material on sexual behaviour for which he slipped into Swahili. The service ended with many coming forward for prayer, including some to commit their lives to Christ. What a tragedy that in too many of our churches in the UK, being ?born again? is seen as mildly embarrassing? rather than as the urgent necessity it really is.
